COTM Octoberfest

Welcome to another COTM blog update! It’s October First, do you know where your good comics are? Well if you are here reading this then I would guess that you do! We have a lot of information to cover but I am going to try and update it for you in a concise way as not to take up to much of your valuable comic reading time.

I’ll start with a quick update on the news for some of the COTM comics:

Anything At All ~ - Eric updates on his site letting us all know that he is going to do some more story arcs within his gag-a-day style of his comic. One thing I found interesting about his most recent update is that he mentions wanting to expand the artistic side of Anything At All into possible larger format pages. Also, I heard from a birdy that there is talk of a cross over with another COTM comic…

Barista Girl – Not a lot new from Ratchet. I know she recently had some of her comics on the big screen at an art show and her comics continue to deliver what is promised…a bitchey Barista.

The Best Band in the Universe – TBBITU has started their third chapter and promise to keep delivering stellar comics about the life times and tragedies of the band.

Charly & Compay – Mike from Charly & Company sent me an e-mail to let me know that he is starting to selling some of his orignal comics at a good price! So pop on over to his site and pick up your favorite Charly & Company strip!

Cobra-Dog - Cobra-Dog is still on hiatus while it's creator is taking care of some school issues. I do hear that there was a guest strip finished by another COTM member that should be going up sometime soon...

The Elderly Apple - EAG want's everyone to know that his 'classics week' is a psoting of old ideas out of his buffer so he can create new ideas into his buffer. So please, understand his ability HAS gotten a lot better and they do NOT represent his curent work. No worries EAG, they are all funny to me! And that's what matters, pleasing me!

The Gods Pack - Probably the BIGGEST news of this post is that COTM has added THE GODS PACK to its line of of great comics! ALSO! Wolfy (The creator) is holding a contest! Year 3 Contest info! Click here! Let's al make her feel welcome and loved!

Goo from another Demension - To be honest, I'm not sure what's up on the Goo front. I know Ty is still producing great comics every week, but I was unable to get any fresh news from him for this post.

The Luminaries - Lumi updates letting us know that he update his comic...FINALLY. You know, I would say 'look, you bum. If you can't put out a new page at least ONCE a month I'm going to kick your lame ass to the curb!" But for the Luminaires, for it's story...it's art...I say to you 'take your time! do what comes to you!' But really, get your ass in gear mister.

Minos - dumbbum reports to say that he has recieved a new addition to his staff that has made the clean up of his area a lot easier but has taken away from his creative time because his new 'helper bot' looks to much like R2D2.

Muddle Creek - I hate to say this Jerry, but Muddle Creek is our political cartoon. case in point. But that just makes me love te old man some more!

Ripeville - What's new in Ripeville? Well Kiki's pregnant, Stoner got everyone stoned AND Kikis's mom called her a whore. What's NOT to love aboutthis comic?

Y2CL - In y2cl news, for the month of October there will be 27 comic updates. That's 2 weeks with 5 comics, 2 weeks with 6 and one week with 7 (counting in overlapping months). Check out the update schedule here. Also, the folks at y2cl (well, that is me, the guy writing this whole thing, so I guess I want you to know) want you to know that next week is a special 'Y2CL Take-Over week'. What does this mean? It means the awesome mind behind For The Reels will be taking over y2cl for all 5 updates next week with spcial takes on movies with a y2cl twist!

I think that covers our members updates.

In other COTM news we are doing our first practice podcast tomorrow to smooth out some of the kinks. We have some great guests lined up so stay tuned! The book is still int he works and cose to completion. Expect it Christmas time!

In sad news I must announce that Starship Moonhawk has decided to leave the collective. Maci, you will be mised and best of luck to you in the future.
I do not want to dwel on it to long, only announce it and move on to happier things.

A COTM Book? A podcast? OH MY!

What are the guys in the COTM crew up to these days? Well, quite a lot. Some of you reading this know me, some do not, so let me introduce myself a little since this is my first time posting into this blog. My name is jhorsley3 and I write/draw Y2CL - The Comic (which is a comic within the COTM community). I do other comics and projects, but I wont bore you with that here, just check out Skitish.net if you want to know more.

I wanted to tell you about a few of the projects the COTM members are working on to give you some insight of what else the great members here work on besides their comics.

First up is the "Comic Of The Month Book Volume One: Comic Gumbo". This book is 152 pages in length and features sections put together by 12 of the 13 COTM members highlighting their individual comics as well as a few bonus pages of never before seen content! The book was put together by me and let me tell you the COTM members do not disappoint on delivery of solid content! The book is planned to be out sometime in late October, watch this blog for more details on the exact date and where you can purchase it!

Next up on the hit list of things to talk about is the forthcoming COTM Comic Gumbo podcast! This podcast is still in the ideas phase but is quickly working it's way to fruition. Some planned ideas are interviews with COTM'ers as well as other web-comic and comic makers, a short fictional serial, reviews and more! So stay tuned for what could be the greatest podcast of all time! Or at least the greatest podcast to come from this website!

I'm going to try and update this blog about once a week with updates on what the COTM folk are doing people have a quick stopping place for updates on what is going on within the COTM world.

From the demented (or decrepit) mind of J Horsley III comes the colossal collection of the highly anticipated, yet under appreciated, Y2Chist-Lite Book One: Vol 1 & 2 (The first 52 ½ Strips)! This book collects all the strips published from November 2003 through March of 2004 plus a lot of stuff you have never seen. What you say? Y2CL stuff I HAVEN'T SEEN? Well Mr. Horsley brings you not 10, not 20, not even 30 but FORTY (40) PAGES of bonus and extra material ONLY available in THIS collection(that is of course, until Mr. Horsley puts out a SUPER ANTHOLOGY OF IT ALL and puts them in there, but that's a ways off!)!

Think this is to good to be true? Check out these impressive press releases for the book:

A group of guys, a midget and a bunny with one arm ? You have to be at least a LITTLE interested, right? y2cl was actually part of the original COTM site. The Luminaries: Awarded Outstanding Thesis

The Luminaries: Tales of My Grandfather (Volume 1 of the Luminaries saga, which is currently in progress online) was given the Outstanding Thesis Award by the University of Central Arkansas, Honors College. The Outstanding Thesis Awards are a high honor, reflecting a unique presentation and workmanship in the projects selected. As the Honors College prides itself on small, carefully chosen classes, then takes only a few Outstanding Thesis winners from that small body, the award is very difficult to come by.

Candidates for the award were nominated by mentors of the 77 different student thesis projects submitted by the Honors College graduating class. These candidates were then reviewed by a top faculty board, inspecting their interdisciplinary nature, the quality of the scholarship, and the originality of the work.

The Honors College at UCA is a special department of the university, providing a unique minor and education system to selected students. It has drawn praise from prominent figures and associations such as former Secretary of Education, Terrel Bell and the Carnegie Foundation, cited as being "one of the most widely imitated programs in the country".

The Outstanding Thesis Award-winning Volume 1 of The Luminaries and future volumes can be found online at http://www.projectluminary.com
